Paul Illg Distinguished Lectureship
Dr. Lauren Mullineaux, a biological oceanographer, Senior Scientist and Chair of the Biology Department at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, will present two lectures.
Public lecture: Monday June 26, 7pm San Juan Community Theater, “Are deep-sea hydrothermal vent communities resilient to disturbance?”
Scientific lecture: Wednesday June 28, 7pm FHL Commons, “Larval behavior in response to cues in a dynamic ocean.”

50th Anniversary NWDBC at FHL
This week we have the 50th Anniversary of the Northwest Developmental Biology Conference at FHL. The regional conference was started in 1967, by Arthur Whiteley, a UW Biology Professor, continued for nearly 30 years by Lynn Riddifiord (UW Biology) with a Developmental Biology Training Grant from NIH, and has been continued by the Seattle Developmental Biology Group since then.

Adam Summers is the College of the Environment’s keynote speaker at the 2017 Lunch and Learn In the Desert event taking place today, March 8, in Rancho Mirage, CA. This annual event draws many Husky Alums and UW friends.

So sad to share the news that Eugene Kozloff passed away at Lighthouse Memory Care in Anacortes yesterday.
Among his many achievements, Koz came to the UW FHL in 1966 and remained here until 2007.
Past FHL Postdoc Robin Kodner in News
Robin Kodner filmed a segment for Oregon Public Broadcasting Field Guide program on bioluminescence back when she was a postdoc fellow at FHL. Parts of it were filmed at FHL.

Seminar this week – Dr. Juliet Crider visiting from UW Earth and Space Sciences
Our seminar this week is “The initiation and evolution of fault zones in basalt” by Dr. Juliet Crider who is visiting FHL from UW Earth and Space Sciences.
She will arrive around 11:00AM and will eat lunch in the dining hall with the FHL graduate students.
Linking the “warm blob” to massive toxic algal bloom in the Pacific Northwest.
Vera Trainer and her team from NOAA have spent many summers at FHL researching this!
