FHL Science Advisory Committee

This committee was formed in Autumn 2026 with the purpose of helping current and future FHL Directors identify emerging opportunities that preserve FHL’s historic strengths in marine science while expanding interdisciplinary collaborations. The SAC will consider both research and educational priorities that capitalize on FHL’s access to the diverse flora and fauna of the Salish Sea, focusing on opportunities for students and researchers to move easily from nature to lab bench and address problems on scales from DNA to climate.

SAC members will serve for 3-year terms, renewable upon agreement between the Director and the member.

FHL Advancement Board

A cross-section of successful leaders serve on the FHL Advancement Board. The Board works with the Director of FHL and the Associate Director for Advancement to promote excellence in marine science education and research by assuring continued support for FHL. Through outreach efforts and campaign support, they help strengthen the work, identity, recognition and distinctive international character of Friday Harbor Labs as part of the University of Washington College of the Environment. The Board meets in May and October and for Focus Committee meetings throughout the year.
