Wi-Fi

Three Wi-Fi networks are available across campus: “eduroam“, Husky Guest, and “University of Washington.” (a password protected guest network). These are linked to the internet via 1Gb/s fiber optic lines that are tied into the main University of Washington campus network (part of Washington State’s K-20 system). See University of Washington’s information on these networks.

Before connecting to a network, be sure to apply all critical updates and security patches for your operating system and install up-to-date virus protection; contact our IT staff if you have any questions regarding the security status of your device. The use of distributed file-sharing programs is prohibited because they slow network performance and often involve infected or copyrighted files.

1. EDUROAM
The fastest and most secure network, this is the preferred connection if you have a UW NetID or belong to another institution that participates in eduroam.

  • If you have used eduroam before at UW or another participating institution, you can log onto it at FHL in the usual way.
  • If you haven’t used eduroam before but have a UW NetID, you may log onto it at FHL after first configuring your device. Go to onboard.wifi.uw.edu and follow the instructions.
  • If you haven’t used eduroam before but are affiliated with a participating eduroam institution other than UW, you may log onto it after first configuring your device.  Contact your institution for instructions.
  • If you are not affiliated with UW or any other participating institution, you must use one of the other networks.

NOTE FOR FHL COURSE STUDENTS: if you’ve never had a UW NetID, you will receive instructions on how to set one up after you register and pay for your course with UW (ask the Academic Services Manager if you need help).  All course students should set up a NetID as soon as possible for access not only to wi-fi but to other UW services.

2. Secured Guest Network – “Husky Guest”

  1. Please select “Husky Guest” SSID from the list of available wireless connections.
  2. You will be immediately connected to the network, no password required.
  3. This IS an encrypted network and there are no connection time limits.
  4.  Limitations;
    • You must have a 5-ghz capable Wi-Fi device, 2.4ghz devices will not connect
    • All printer access must be configured using IP addresses.
    • There are access limitations, some applications may not connect although most common ports are open.
  1. If you require further assistance, please contact FHLIT for Help – (206) 616-0704 or fhlit@uw.edu –  Thank you.

3. Secured UW Guest Network (login w/ an FHL provided NetID)

This is a secured version of the guest network/eduroam for non-eduroam users

  • Select University of Washington under networks
  • This should launch your browser
  • Scroll down and select “Already have a UW NetID?” (do not select Guest Network or Eduroam)
  • Use the NetID and password from your Arrival sheet that you received when you picked up your keys to login.  If you’re unsure of the password, ask the Front Office or any FHL staff member
