About Payments

For all FHL programs, students will need to make at least two different payments: one to University of Washington in Seattle and one to Friday Harbor Labs. In some cases, a third payment will be required. Even after you have paid UW Seattle for tuition and/or fees, you will still need to pay FHL for other expenses. The tables below explain how different expenses must be paid.

We accept checks, credit/debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and American Express; no extra fee), or cash.

If you will be paying UW Seattle or FHL by credit card, we suggest you first contact your credit card company to inform them that you will be making these charges, and to ask if there are any daily or maximum charge limits. If there are charge limits, you can request that these be adjusted for this single payment.

About Registration

Students (including UW students) will only be able to register for courses after they’ve been admitted by FHL and have confirmed that they will attend. FHL will provide confirmed students with the instructions, forms, and add/or codes needed for registering.

2021  Winter

All students

Research Apprenticeship costs, registration and payment procedures are the same for everyone. UW Students: you will NOT see these charges or pay for them through your UW student account.

1. Pay Tuition, Course Fee, Housing & Dining to FHL, preferably before you arrive (no later than two days after classes begin). See How to Pay FHL above.

2. FHL Academic Services will email you a course registration form with your information on it. To register yourself, you will need to send that form to the UW Continuum College together with payment of Registration Fees. Even if you are a UW student, you cannot register through myUW.

2021  Spring

UW students

A UW Student is one who is currently enrolled (matriculated) at UW. 

1. Pay a $300, non-refundable deposit toward Housing & Dining to FHL, due February 1.

2. Pay the remainder of charges for Housing & Dining to FHL, preferably before you arrive (no later than two days after classes begin). See How to Pay FHL above. **These charges will not show up in your UW student account.

3. Register yourself and pay Tuition & all Fees (including Course Fees) through your UW student account as you would for other quarters at UW. You will need entry codes; FHL Academic Services will email those to you.

Non-UW students

Register yourself and pay Tuition & Fees (not including Course Fees) to UW Non-Degree Registration Services (NDRS), after receiving the forms and instructions from FHL Academic Services. We will email you registration forms (with charges listed). Complete the forms and send them to UW with payment, in one of three ways:

  • By mail (to address on form) with a check made out to University of Washington or with credit/debit card information filled in on the form.
  • By email to c2reg@uw.edu or fax to 206-685-9359, with credit/debit card information filled in on the form, OR
  • By phone to 206-543-2310.  Call first, then submit the form (by scan and email or by fax), then pay with a credit/debit card over the phone.

3. Pay Course Fees to UW Student Fiscal Services (SFS) after you arrive at FHL. You may either bring a personal check to mail to UW SFS or you may pay online via MyUW.

2021  Summer

All students

Summer term costs, registration and payment procedures are the same for everyone. UW Students: you will NOT see these charges or pay for them through your UW student account.

UW STUDENTS:  If your UW department is helping to pay for tuition, registration, or lab fees, we will need to make special arrangements.  Please determine the person in your department with whom we should correspond, and email that person and Mason Wiley at FHL to start the conversation.

1. Pay a $500, non-refundable deposit toward Housing & Dining to FHL, due May 15.

2. Pay the remainder of Housing & Dining to FHL, preferably before you arrive (no later than two days after classes begin). See How to Pay FHL above.

3. Register and pay Tuition, Registration, and Course Fees to UW Professional and Continuing Education (PCE) no later than 10 days before classes begin, after receiving the form & instructions from us.

Summer A or Summer A & B: Register no later than June 5
Summer B: Register no later than July 10

We will email you a two-page registration form in May. Print the two pages and fill out Page 1. Be sure to sign and date on the line noted, and check off the method of payment. Send both pages to UW with payment, in one of four ways:

  • By mail (to Mailing Address on top of Registration Form page 1) with a check made out to University of Washington or with credit/debit card information filled out on the form.
  • By phone to 206-543-2310. Call first, then submit the form (by scan and email or by fax), then pay with a credit/debit card over the phone.
  • By email to c2reg@uw.edu or fax to 206-685-9359, with credit/debit card information filled in on the form, OR
  • By bank wire: email FHL Student Services and we will provide the additional information you need to complete an electronic payment.
