Resources for Medical & Behavioral Health
Medical Care and Your Insurance
UW STUDENTS
- For information on available UW health services & insurance, visit Husky Health and Well-Being and Insurance & Costs. For the purposes of these UW resources, FHL is a considered a part of the UW Seattle campus.
NON-UW STUDENTS
- Check in with your home university to learn if you have access to any of their resources during your term at FHL.
ALL STUDENTS
- Check your health insurance plan to see if there’s a 24/7 Medical Advice Hotline. Most plans have this service, and it’s a good way to get immediate medical advice.
- Contact your health insurance plan to determine your level of coverage for visits to Peace Island Peace Health (PIPH) Medical Center and PIPH Emergency Room in Friday Harbor AND for medical emergency air transport.
- In cases of medical emergency, patients may require airlift transport to a hospital on the mainland. This transport is extremely costly, and many health insurance plans only cover some of this cost. Consider enrolling one or more of the three available programs for medivac flights from San Juan Island:
- AirLift NW of WA. Requires health insurance; covers copay or coinsurance costs. Subscription cost (as of July 2023) $60/year for household.
- Island Air Ambulance. Requires health insurance; covers copay or coinsurance costs. Subscription cost (as of July 2023) $25/3 months, $39/year for household.
- Lifeflight. Does not require health insurance. Subscription cost (as of July 2023) $75/year for household.
