Program Options

1. Spring Marine Studies (SMS)

For the SMS program, students select a combination of courses for a minimum of 12 total credits:

• Introductory Biology (BIOL 180, 5 credits)
• Integrative Oceans (OCEAN 210, 4 credits) – lectures remote, quiz section in person.
• Natural History of the Salish Sea (FHL 275, 5 credits)
• Science Writing for Diverse Audiences (FHL 333, 3 or 5 credits)
• Marine Mammals of the Salish Sea (FHL 375, 5 credits)
• Marine Sciences Seminar (FHL 490, 1 credit)

2. Zoo-Bot Program (ZBP)

For the Zoo-Bot Program, students participate in the following 3 required courses, plus optional Marine Sciences Seminar, for a total of 16 or 17 credits:

• (mandatory) Zoobot Quarter Program (FHL 430/BIOL 430, FHL 440/BIOL 445, AND FHL 470)
• (optional) Marine Sciences Seminar (FHL 490, 1 credit)

3. Marine Biodiversity Through the Lens of Single-Cell Genomics (FHL 472) Research Apprenticeship.

Research Apprenticeships are intensive, 15-credit courses that teach students research tools and methods. Students then use those new skills to conduct their own research project.
