FHL 470 | Autumn 2019

Research in Marine Biology 2019

Credits: 6

Instructor(s): Dr. Todd Clardy

This course is offered as part of Autumn Marine Studies 2019.

In this course, you will get a hands-on introduction to “doing science.” For the bulk of the course, you will be engaged in research activities in close collaboration with a supervisor. Student projects will focus on selected questions of marine biology; research topics vary, but will involve lab experiments and/or field work in the local marine habitats of the San Juan Archipelago. The course will also include lectures and class activities to help students gain skills in gathering, analyzing, and presenting data; to present the nuts and bolts of collaboration, authorship, grant-writing, and professional conduct; and to consider ethical dilemmas in the sciences.

No textbook required.

UW undergraduate students taking this course may be eligible for partial funding from the Mary Gates Endowment (MGE).
