Registration
While credit for FHL coursework is earned through the University of Washington (UW), you need not be matriculated at UW (or any other university) to register for a course at FHL. Students must apply to and be accepted by FHL before they can register. There are different registration procedures for UW and non-UW students.
- Marine Biology Quarter (MBQ): UW-matriculated students will register themselves through MyUW, with required add codes received from FHL staff. Non-UW students will be registered by FHL staff.
- Research Apprenticeships: All Research Apprenticeship students will be registered by FHL staff; UW students should not attempt to register through MyUW.
FHL Courses: Credits & Degree Requirements
Students are encouraged to contact their academic advisors to understand how they will be credited at their home institutions (if not UW) for FHL courses, and how these courses will apply to degree requirements. UW students can contact the following advisors:
- Marine Biology Minor: Joe Kobayashi
- School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences: Samantha Scherer
- Biology: Janet Germeraad
- School of Marine and Environmental Affairs: Tiffany Dion
- Oceanography: Michelle Townsend
- Program on the Environment: Ana Wieman
For UW Students with Dorm Contracts in Seattle
There will be no financial penalty for moving out of a dorm contract in Seattle if UW students cancel their application and dorm assignment within one week of confirming their attendance at Friday Harbor Labs. Log into the UW Housing & Food Services Application and Assignment Home Page and submit an Agreement Termination Notice (located under the Resident Resources header for the relevant academic year). You will be asked if you will still be enrolled at UW, to which you should answer, “I will be participating in a study abroad/internship.” You will then be asked where you are moving to, and should select the choice “off-campus house/apartment.”
