Happy February 1 to all!
We are still enjoying the fact that last Thursday, January 25, FHL Associate Director for Academics and the Environment, Professor Megan Dethier was honored with the 2018 Conservation Research Award from the Seattle Aquarium at the Chairman’s Dinner.
Dear FHL friends and supporters,
Happy Holidays! I hope that you enjoyed the long Thanksgiving weekend. We have so much to be thankful here at Friday Harbor Laboratories! It has been a difficult year in so many ways in our country, but here at FHL, the UW College of the Environment and the University of Washington, we continue to strive for excellence, diversity, equity and inclusion.
It’s October 1st and our FHL Autumn Marine Biology Quarter and Pelagic Ecosystem Function Apprenticeship are off to fine starts! We’re happy to also be hosting the Three Seas undergraduate students at FHL for diving, molecular work, research, and learning about the unique environment here on San Juan Island.
We start the FHL Seminar Series for the summer with:
John Wares, University of Georgia
“RNA expression and disease tolerance are associated with a “keystone mutation” in the ochre sea star Pisaster ochraceus”
William Kem, University of Florida
“Paranemertes Toxin as a Template for Designing New Drugs?”
