Greetings,

Last month’s Tide Bite was about a new apprenticeship course, starting from scratch to seek an understanding of the False Bay ecosystem.  This month’s describes a well-established apprenticeship, one of the first offered at FHL and definitely the longest-running.  As a result, it has a remarkable 18-year database on the oceanography and biota of the open waters of the San Juan Archipelago.  The 12 students in this year’s cohort had a rich time-series to use as jumping-off points for continued or new investigations into our local pelagic ecosystem.  They followed their interests in many different directions, as illustrated below in the words of three of them.  These apprenticeships often launch careers!

Best,
Dr. Megan Dethier
