The retirement of long-time staff members from our tight FHL community offers a bittersweet occasion; a chance to have a big party to celebrate their service and accomplishments, while knowing we will miss them.

In this case, Kathy Ballard Cowell is retiring after almost 15 years at FHL and we can’t have a party due to COVID restrictions – but it’s just postponed, not cancelled!  By chance, her retirement coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Whiteley Center, of which she has been such an integral part. Here she tells the story of her relationship with Arthur Whiteley and how she grew to be the loving caretaker of the Center and all its scholars.

Those of us at FHL year round, along with the visiting Whiteley Scholars, profoundly appreciate all Kathy has done for us.  We know she will keep very busy taking beautiful photographs; watch for them!

Please be sure to take a look at The Whiteley Center’s 20th Anniversary celebration pages on its website.  There is also a giving link there, should you feel inclined to support the Whiteley Center.
