Greetings,

It is not uncommon for the FHL Family to include multiple “generations” from one academic lineage.  In many cases one researcher spends time here, eventually sends his/her graduate students, and they in turn may come back as instructors or send their own students!  In Jen Burnaford’s case, her PhD advisor Bruce Menge was here as a graduate student in the late 1960s; Jen worked here in the 1990s and has spent many summers at FHL thereafter; and now she sends her own graduate students here!  Once people catch the FHL “bug” they pass it on, knowing what an amazing place it is to think, work, learn, and build community – both academically and socially.  While this summer that community is small, the learning and interacting are happening nonetheless, and it is a joy to see.

Best,
Dr. Megan Dethier
FHL Director
