Staying at FHL and just tested positive?  Here are the steps to take.

  1. REPORT YOUR CASE

Fill out San Juan County COVID reporting form and, if you are a UW employee or student, the UW COVID reporting form (details at the bottom of this page).

  1. FOR THE FIRST FIVE DAYS

Isolate for 5 full days from when your symptoms started (or if you’ve had no symptoms, from your first positive test result).

  • If you’re a student in a UW-FHL course, living in a shared dorm room, we will relocate either you or your roommate to a different housing situation for 5-10 days, after which you will go back to staying in your original room together.
  • During isolation, do not enter any shared indoor spaces except to walk through dorm hallways as needed to get to a bathroom or outside. When you enter dorm hallways, wear a well-fitting N95 mask.
  • If you are staying in a dorm room or hut, please use the unisex, isolation/quarantine bathroom in Dorm Building B.
  • If you’re a student in a UW-FHL course, we will ask a TA to coordinate the delivery of food and COVID test kits to your door by your classmates.
  • Other visitors should make their own arrangements for deliveries; one option for delivery service on island is You Buy, I’ll Fly.
  • You are welcome to get outside, go for walks, etc. – just keep your distance from others.
  • During these 5 days, there is no need to take additional tests, because the results will not change procedures. Save the test kits for later!
  1. FOR THE SECOND FIVE DAYS

After five full days, you can come out of isolation when you meet ALL of the following criteria:

    • Your symptoms are improving.
    • You’ve been fever-free without tylenol/ibuprofen/aspirin for at least 24 hours.
    • You are testing negative.*

DURING THESE SECOND FIVE DAYS:

  • You must wear a well-fitting N95 in any common spaces and around others.
  • Because of the above mask requirement, you cannot eat with others; if you are on a meal plan in the Dining Hall, you may pick up your own take-out meals to eat elsewhere.
  • If you’re a student in a UW-FHL course and your normal housing assignment is a shared dorm room, we will let you know when you and your roommate should move back in together.

*After 10 full days, you may come out of isolation even if you are still testing positive. However, we ask that you wear a well-fitting N95 mask for as long as you are testing positive.
