Visitor 2020 Proposed Rates (pending approval)

These rates apply to any expenses that are not paid on a UW budget, regardless of a person’s UW affiliation. They are higher than budget rates due to the addition of University of Washington institutional overhead.

Charges subject to 8.1% Sales Tax.

**All visitors on campus will be charged Dining Dollars and User Fees, with the exception of family members accompanying researchers and not using FHL facilities.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Student researchers are encouraged to apply for financial aid to help defray these costs.  See information on FHL Student Research Fellowships.

Bedding: Housing rates include two flat sheets (fitted sheets not available), a pillow with pillowcase, blanket and a towel per bed.  Weekly linen exchange (on Fridays, 8-8:30 am) is provided free of charge.

Facility Fee

All visitors on campus will be charged a Facility Fee to cover common use spaces (including meeting rooms) and equipment, mail and package services, rowboats, stockroom, and other campus services/facilities.  Family members accompanying researchers and not using FHL facilities are exempt from user fees.

Dining

Apartments, cottages, duplexes, and grad dorms have kitchens stocked with essential cooking and dining utensils; standard dorms and huts do not. Those staying in units without kitchens must subscribe to full meal plans in the Dining Hall. Those staying in kitchen units may either sign up for full plans or purchase Dining Dollars (see below) to use for occasional meals when desired.

Dining Dollars: those staying in kitchen units for four or more days and not subscribing to a full meal plan will be issued and charged for Dining Dollars. For each non-student, Dining Dollars are equivalent in value to two dinners per week; for each student, they are equivalent to one lunch per week. Dining Dollars may be used toward any food or beverage in the Dining Hall.

Meals for children 10 and under are half price.

Lab Rental Fee

A Laboratory Rental Fee is charged for assigned lab spaces.  Researchers with UW appointments are exempt from the rental fee. Rates (per space) are as follows:

Policies for Cancellations & Cleaning

One night’s stay will be billed to your payment method chosen if you do not notify FHL staff of cancellation by 3:00 pm the day before your arrival. Notifications can be sent by email to fhlfac@uw.edu or any FHL staff. If after departure, additional staff time is required for cleaning a housing unit or lab space beyond what is ordinarily needed, you will be billed for extra time at a rate of $50/hour.

  2. A Student is any person enrolled in a university, college, or K-12 school.
  3. Use of motorboats requires a WA State Boater Educational Card and a check out from our Boat Safety Officer. For more information, please contact Kristy Kull.
  4. Use of rowboats requires a rowboat orientation. For orientations scheduled after hours, there is a $58 charge. For more information, please contact Kristy Kull.
