What is Citizen Science?

Citizen science is a way for people in the local community to get involved with important scientific research. Volunteers without formal scientific education or training can, among other activities, gather data for ongoing research. These volunteers may serve as data collectors, processors or analysts. Citizen science helps scientists expand their opportunities to access and collect scientific data that would otherwise be impossible or prohibitively expensive to achieve without the assistance of volunteers.
